Opsera Limited, a leading provider of Open Source software and services, is pleased to announce the launch of Virgin Money Giving, Virgin Money's new charitable giving platform, designed with help from the charities and, built by Opsera in partnership with Virgin Money. Virgin Money Giving is a not-for-profit organisation created by Virgin Money to raise more money for charitable causes, and to support fundraising for the Virgin London Marathon and other major fundraising events.
Opsera were selected by Virgin Money Giving to deliver a secure, robust, scalable service based on open source components and within an aggressive timescale. The new system needed to handle thousands of users simultaneously making payments worth many millions of pounds and therefore had to be designed for high performance and security from the outset. The system also needed to integrate with a range of back-office systems to give an exciting and seamless experience for all types of users whether they are charities, fundraisers or donors.
Opsera worked closely with VMG to analyse and design the solution and then led the development and delivery with their offshore partner, Arrk. Opsera managed a multi-disciplinary team split across three locations giving VMG the cost advantage of offshore development, with the flexibility and responsiveness of an experienced UK based team.
Virgin Money Giving were able to launch their new business with a brand new web platform, at a cost dramatically less than a comparable system developed onshore and with inherent architectural flexibility, because it was based around Open Source software. These cost savings will result in a low cost of operation for VMG ensuring that more funds will be delivered to the many good causes that VMG will support.
